Discovery Community College Health Sciences Program Educator in NANAIMO, British Columbia

Discovery Community College

is looking for a qualified individual to join their dynamic team as a Health Sciences Program Educator. 

 

This position is responsible for leading and directing the overall educational, academic, and philosophical direction of the Health Care Assistant (HCA) and Practical Nurse (PN) programs within the Health Sciences Department.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Program Management 

  • Ensure academic excellence and integrity in all aspects of program delivery. 

  • Ensure that program and course curriculum(s) adhere to accreditation standards (PTIB, BCCNM, CACHWR). 

  • Maintain consistency in program delivery across campuses. 

  • Have sound knowledge of all aspects of the curriculum(s) in each program. 

  • Evaluate and revise courses based on feedback. 

  • Set and maintain high standards for professionalism. 

Instructor Management 

  • Participate in the hiring and dismissal of instructors. 

  • Be involved in the orientation and assignment of instructors. 

  • Support instructors in their teaching role and professional development. 

  • Supervise curriculum delivery and student evaluations. 

  • Evaluate instructor performance. 

  • Assist with student placements. 

Student Success 

  • Support classroom and student management practices. 

  • Ensure best practices for student attendance and behavior. 

  • Manage student placements in collaboration with the Placement Coordinator. 

  • Provide academic and practice guidance to students. 

Regulatory Organizations 

  • Comply with all regulatory designations (PTIB, SABC, MAE) 

  • Ensure HCA program compliance with CACHWR standards. 

  • Ensure PN program compliance with BCCNM standards. 

  • Develop knowledge of regulatory standards and adhere to guidelines. 

Community Relationships 

  • Have a sound knowledge of health care facilities and services. 

  • Develop relationships with stakeholders for student placements and graduate employment. 

  • Promote DCC’s mission and objectives within the community. 

  • Participate in community health care organizations as required. 

Skills and Competencies 

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. 

  • Proficiency in curriculum development and education technology. 

  • Excellent digital literacy essential. 

Salary range $70,000 - $95,000 based on education levels and experience. 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • An active license through the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and in good standing. 

  • Master’s degree required 

  • Minimum of five years of relevant occupational experience. 

  • Provincial Instructor’s Diploma or an equivalent qualification (or be enrolled and actively pursuing to be completed within three years of hiring). 

  • Experience in teaching or educational leadership preferred. 

Travel between our various campuses will be required, so access to a reliable vehicle is important.
