Vanderbilt University Assistant Sport Scientist in Nashville, Tennessee

This position is responsible for coordinating of sports science services for teams as directed by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Science & Sports Performance. This position will work in collaboration with assigned sports performance teams to ensure student athletes, sports coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, athletic trainers, and sports nutritionists are provided with necessary data collection and analysis resources to improve sport performance and reduce the risk of injury.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Science and Sports Performance, design and implement sports science services for teams as assigned.

  • Maintain CPR/AED/First Aid certification.

  • Manage the collection, analysis, and communication of relevant data, from sources including but not limited to load monitoring technology, force plates, and velocity-based training platforms.

  • Work independently and with the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Science and Sports Performance and sports coaches to organize and direct team monitoring and testing logistics.

  • Follow all department and sport specific policies and procedures.

  • Communicate daily and collaborate with members of assigned sports performance teams.

  • Act as a liaison to sports technology vendors as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Science and Sports Performance.

  • Foster effective communication between strength and conditioning, sports coaches, sports nutrition, sports medicine, mental performance, student athletes, and administration.

  • Assist in managing and maintaining relevant equipment.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sport Science and Sport Performance.

Supervisory Relationships

This position reports administratively and functionally to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Science and Sports Performance.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree is necessary.

  • A Master’s Degree is preferred.

  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification is necessary.

  • 1 year of related experience in a collegiate or professional team setting is necessary.

  • 2 years of related experience in a collegiate or professional team setting is preferred.

  • Prior experience utilizing athlete monitoring and testing tools is necessary.

  • Must be organized, detail oriented, and must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while collaborating with athletics staff and student athletes.

Ability to work a non-standard work week including nights, weekends, & holidays is necessary
