Nevada County is nestled in California’s Sierra Nevada foothills, about an hour outside Sacramento and two hours from the San Francisco Bay Area. This is a rare opportunity to join the Nevada County Team as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist. You will be working with a friendly and inclusive group of well-rounded Environmental Health Specialists and Technicians who, maintain work-life balance through a variety of activities from backpacking, camping, and traveling to art and literature.
Environmental Health Team members primarily interpret, implement, and enforce local, state, and federal laws for the protection of public health and safety for our residents and visitors. The ideal Environmental Health Specialist is well-rounded, possessing strong customer service and technical skills, in addition to experience managing special projects, analyzing current procedural processes, and implementing improvements.
The position includes generous vacation time, flexible work schedules, and the possibility of working remotely several days per week. Nevada County employees can opt to receive dental and vision insurance without opting for health insurance coverage as well. Retirement
The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.

The Environmental Health Specialist II position is the journey level in the class series. Under supervision, responsibilities will include but not limited to interpreting , implementing and enforcing local, state and federal environmental health and hazardous materials laws; will perform permitted facility inspections and investigations and provided education of laws and regulations to business owners and operators; performs inspections and investigations; provides technical consultations and assistance; and will perform related work as required.
