Posting Summary | The Specialist will serve as a liaison between the Rutgers English Language Institute (RELI) and the Rutgers Learning Centers (LCs), and will provide individual writing assistance, both in-person and online, to undergraduate and graduate students, across all academic disciplines and subjects, other than those offered through the Writing Program. This position will be filled by a full-time or part-time RELI staff member who serves in a co-adjunct position with the LCs to offer writing support for multilingual students. The Multilingual Writing Specialist provides individual writing assistance, both in-person and online, to undergraduate and graduate students, across all academic disciplines and subjects, other than those offered by the Writing Program. The Specialist works with students at all levels of writing competency and on every aspect of the writing process, from outlining, punctuation, and grammar to thesis statements, paragraph development, and analysis. They provide writing coaching for a broad range of writing, including assigned papers, laboratory reports, research papers, senior theses, doctoral dissertations, and personal statements and statements of purpose for scholarships and for graduate and professional programs. Writing Specialists also work independently, creating materials and resources, such as videos and blogs, that directly address the writing concerns of students and faculty. |

Minimum Education and Experience | Requires a bachelor's degree in English, the humanities, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of English grammar and usage within the context of assisting multilingual learners with their writing. The Specialist must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work with students from linguistically diverse backgrounds, patience, and a commitment to student achievement and success. |
