Description of Work

Position will serve as an Engineering Technician II in the Wilmington District Office and will be primarily responsible for the processing, review, and approval of driveway permits, encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions. Position will also perform on-site inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments, and subdivisions. Position will communicate with engineers, developers, members of the public, public offices and NCDOT personnel. Position will conduct pre-construction meetings with applicants. And will perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters as it relates to road additions, driveway permits and encroachments. Position requires excellent organizational and time-management skills to ensure permits, agreements, and projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Position requires the ability to write memos and reports that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts.

  • Experience in customer service, adept at resolving issues and explaining moderately complex engineering concepts to diverse customer groups.

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite for various professional tasks.

    Additional Expectations:

    Safety toe shoe footwear required.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
