Advanced Fitter $45/hr & $120 per day in per diem
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Advanced Fitter with four + years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class Fitter or Fabricator. The ideal candidate will have expertise in single pass tack welding, burning, heating, and the ability to comprehend complex structural assembly drawings and blueprints.
Responsibilities
Perform single pass tack welding.
Utilize oxygen/propane burning and heating torches.
Comprehend and interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, and reference lines.
Measure and comprehend fractional dimensions using a ruler.
Use vibratory tools, including grinders and needle guns.
Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly.
Assemble structural piece parts in accordance with quality specifications.
Work in physically demanding environments such as shipbuilding and steel fabrication.
Familiarize with OSHA regulations related to the shipbuilding industry.
Essential Skills
Single Pass Tack Welding
Burning-Oxygen/Propane Burning Torch
Heating-Oxygen/Propane Heating Torch
Ability to comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches
Ability to comprehend fractional dimensions
Ability to lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly
Ability to assemble structural piece parts according to specifications
Experience in a physically demanding environment
Familiarity with OSHA regulations in shipbuilding
Proficiency with vibratory tools (grinders and needle guns)
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with MIL-M (A-5A) Filler Metal of MIL-E-/1
Ability to weld in both Vertical Up (3F) and Overhead (4F) positions
Completion of tests administered by the Welding School, including multiple pass tack welding and visual inspection of welds

This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
