NEW SALEM Farm Manager Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Farm Manager to oversee the operations of a small apple farm in New England. This role requires a dynamic individual with a passion for sustainable agriculture, excellent leadership skills, and hands-on experience managing orchard operations. The Farm Manager will be responsible for all aspects of farm management, from crop production to marketing and staff supervision, ensuring the farm runs efficiently and profitably. Key Responsibilities: 1. Orchard Management: Oversee the care and maintenance of apple trees, including pruning, pest and disease management, fertilization, irrigation, and harvesting. Develop and implement orchard management plans to optimize yield and quality. Monitor crop health and recommend improvements as needed. 2. Farm Operations: Plan and manage planting, harvesting, and post-harvest handling schedules. Ensure equipment and infrastructure are well-maintained and operational. Manage supply inventory and order necessary materials (e.g., tools, fertilizers, and pesticides). 3. Financial Management: Develop and manage budgets, track expenses, and optimize farm profitability. Monitor and analyze financial performance, making adjustments to meet financial goals. Explore and implement opportunities for revenue growth, such as agritourism or value-added products. 4. Knowledge of agricultural equipment and maintenance. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and adapt to changing conditions.
