Job Title: Lead Teaching Assistant

Location: New York City College of Technology (City Tech), CUNY, Brooklyn, NY (On-site)

Job Type: Part-time/Contract/Temporary

About Us: The Tech Talent Pipeline Residency Program (TTPR) at CUNY City Tech prepares students for careers in tech by offering practical, hands-on learning experiences. We are seeking an experienced Lead Teaching Assistant (Lead TA) to support the Winter Bootcamp Instructor during a ten-week web development bootcamp. This role is perfect for individuals with some industry and teaching experience who are passionate about education and eager to help mentor the next generation of tech talent.

Start Date: December 1, 2024

End Date: March 30, 2025

Salary: $23 per hour (30 hours per week)

Other Duties

As the Lead Teaching Assistant, you will take on a leadership role in supporting the bootcamp instructor and overseeing the work of other TAs. You will serve as a resource for students and TAs alike, ensuring that the bootcamp runs smoothly and efficiently. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the instructor in delivering lectures, guiding projects, and supporting students during classroom sessions.

  • Providing more advanced support to students working on web development projects, troubleshooting issues, and offering technical guidance.

  • Supervising and mentoring a team of TAs, ensuring they are effectively supporting students and staying organized with their tasks.

  • Facilitating group discussions, labs, and breakout sessions, helping students collaborate and apply course concepts to real-world projects.

  • Coordinating communication between the instructor and other TAs, ensuring that students receive timely help and feedback.

  • Assisting with grading projects and assignments, offering constructive feedback, and helping the instructor evaluate student progress.

  • Collaborating with the instructor and TTPR’s tech advisor to ensure that the curriculum and teaching strategies meet students’ learning needs.

  • Leading review sessions, office hours, or additional support for students who require extra help.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

  • Some industry experience in web development, software engineering, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and web development tools.

  • Teaching or mentoring experience in a classroom or workshop setting, with the ability to explain complex concepts to students of varying skill levels.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with experience managing a team or coordinating group projects.

  • Excellent communication skills and a passion for fostering a collaborative, inclusive learning environment.

  • Experience with GitHub, SQL, and real-world projects is preferred.
