City of New York Assistant Housing Manager in New York, New York

Job Description

The Leased Housing Department’s Briefing, Rental and Transfer Unit (BRTU) is seeking an Assistant Housing Manager. Under the direction of the Housing Manager, with latitude in independent decision making, the Assistant Housing Manager will assist with leading the Brooklyn BRTU. The BRTU is responsible for processing rental and transfer packages for Section 8 participants. In addition, the unit is also responsible for conducting informal conferences and informal reviews.

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the overall supervision of tasks performed by staff within the Briefing, Rental and Transfer Unit including recruitment, performance evaluation, training, and employee disciplinary actions.

  • Responsible for navigating, identifying, and assisting with Siebel issues/fixes/enhancements.

  • Review Rental and Transfer packages submitted by voucher holders; prepare packages for scanning and finalize rental processing in Siebel.

  • Handle sensitive documents with personal identifying information. This will include scanning documents received into the system, associating documents to the proper service request, and reviewing and disposition documents and service requests.

  • Process voucher extensions.

  • Resolve applicant and tenant related issues.

  • Communicate with outside agencies to ensure and expedite the Rental/Transfer process.

  • Ensure accurate and timely responses to inquiries.

  • Promptly review and disposition reasonable accommodation requests.

  • Create and process payment adjustments.

  • Report system issues and suggest enhancements to improve operations.

  • Establish effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and one year of full-time satisfactory supervisory and/or administrative experience in housing management at a development or developments containing at least 150 apartments, including overseeing the performance of duties such as: interviewing applicants; determining eligibility; gathering and evaluating information to resolve complaints; collecting rents; and/or resolving tenant related problems; or

  2. A four -year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and five years of the full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or

  3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described in "1" or "2" above. Undergraduate college credits may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of full time satisfactory experience. However, all candidates must have a four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
