New York University Assistant Research Scientist (Part-Time) in New York, New York

We are seeking a Research Associate on a grant-funded project starting September. Candidates must be fluent in Mandarin Chinese and/or Cantonese. This project examines the feasibility and efficacy of a writing-based intervention for Chinese American cancer survivors. The RA will assist with all aspects of data collection, including participant recruitment, screening/tracking, as well as preparing IRB applications. There will be opportunities related to data management, analysis, and writing. Students interested in applying for PhD programs in Psychology are especially encouraged to apply.

This position will be supervised by Dr. William Tsai (Director of the Culture, Emotion & Health Lab at NYU).

Research Associate Responsibilities:

  • Commit 18 hours/week starting September 2024 through Summer 2025 (with a potential for extending beyond Summer 2025)

  • Preparation of research materials (e.g., IRB protocol, recruitment flyers, survey packets)

  • Assist in participant recruitment and screening of potential participants

  • Maintain and track participants enrolled in the study

  • Send out participant research incentives

  • Compile and send out weekly tasks for each study team member

  • Manage lab social media account, including preparation of content, posting, and engagement with community

  • Attend weekly project meetings

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the base hourly rate for this position is $20-$24/hour. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is expected to be fully in person.

  • Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and/or Cantonese is preferred (written, oral)

  • Experience managing research efforts during a time of active data collection

  • Comfort with quantitative data. Experience in Excel/Google Sheets, statistical and database software (e.g., Qualtrics, SPSS) is a plus

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work well both independently and collaboratively on complex tasks
