Job Title: Assistant Research ScientistGrade: 15Salary: $55,652 - $66,648The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Assistant Research Scientist position at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. This role is for an Assistant Research Scientist in a neuroscience laboratory specializing in rodent models to investigate mechanisms and therapeutic targets for mental illnesses. The research focuses on understanding the circuit mechanism underlying normal brain function and exploring how early-life experiences and environmental exposures influence these processes. As well as focus on neurobehavioral systems, employing environmental and molecular/genetic manipulations to investigate neural cellular and circuit structure, function, and their impact on behavior. The ideal candidate must have excellent organizational skills, meticulous record-keeping, and must be able to aid others in the laboratory with data. The chosen candidate must also have a flexible schedule, including availability for evening and weekend work.Duties and Responsibilities:Responsibilities will vary depending on experimental demands and may include•Handling research rodents•Performing stereotaxic surgeries and monitoring during recovery•Conducting behavioral testing.•Performing anatomical circuit tracing and neurohistology•Conducting electrophysiology and biosensor recordings•Analyzing dataMinimum Qualifications:•Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional research experience in an appropriate field or 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience. •At least two years of experience using Matlab and Python.Preferred Qualifications:•Recent completion of a PhD level education or equivalent in neuroscience-related field•2 years of experience in at least 3 of the techniques in the job duties•Proficient in brain clearing techniques, light-sheet microscopy, and advanced imaging methodsWork Location: 1051 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10032To Apply: Submit an application through our website at https://nyspi.applicantpro.com/jobs/.
