Job Title: Assistant Research ScientistGrade: 15Salary: $55,652- $ 66,648The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Assistant Research Scientist position for its intermediary organization, the Laboratory of Maura Boldrini, MD, PhD (www.mauraboldrinilab.com) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC). This position will work on single cell and spatial multiomic, including proteomic, wet and computational lab procedures and data analyses, combined with validation experiments using immunofluorescence, IHC, confocal microscopy, stereology, RNAscope® in situ hybridization, Western Blot, and related quantitative analyses.We strive to understand brain cell type specific regulation, and we are working to translate fundamental discoveries into precision medicine for brain disorders with unmet medical needs. Our projects are on brain aging, Alzheimer's, mood disorders, suicide, environmental stress, and COVID brain.The position requires attention to detail, fast learning abilities, experience in wet and imaging lab techniques, data managing and excellent organizational and team building skills. A team approach and excellent English proficiency and writing skills are required. Teaching opportunities include working with students, and there are great opportunities for publishing.Previous successful candidates were accepted at prestigious MD, PhD or MD/PhD programs after working with us for few years.Duties and Responsibilities:•Preparing brain tissue for single nucleus and slide-mounted spatial RNA and ATAC sequencing, performing multiplex immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry, RNAscope® in situ hybridization, and western blotting. •Imaging lab involves brain tissue imaging and quantification, confocal microscopy and stereology using MBF Inc. Stereoinvestigator and Neurolucida. Computational work involves coding using software commonly used for genomics studies (r, Python).•Other tasks involve operation of cryostat and microtome, keeping inventory of freezer contents, lab supplies, and brain information. •The RA will perform data reporting and presentations, and literature search for papers and posters, and be involved in manuscript writing and poster presentations. The RA will meet daily with the PI and participate in the weekly lab meetings.Minimum Qualifications:•Bachelor's degree and one year of professional research experience in an appropriate field•30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.Preferred Qualifications:•Master's degree•Experience using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), R, Python, and SAS and/or SPSS•Experience in data reporting using graphs and images, literature search and generating bibliography for papers and posters•2-3 years of professional experience with coding, genomics data handling and analyses, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, Neurolucida and Stereoinvestigator software (MBF, Inc.).Work Location: 1051 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10032To Apply: Submit an application through our website at https://nyspi.applicantpro.com/jobs/.
