Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Assistant Research Scientist. We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Research Scientist. The New York University Grossman School of Medicines Center for Healthful Behavior Change, housed in the Institute for Excellence in Health Equity is leading a new initiative that involves partnerships with several large health care centers including the Family Health Centers at NYULH and NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation. The purpose of this project is to guide the implementation of a maternal health community implementation project. The Assistant Research Scientist works under the general direction of the program Contact Principal Investigator and is responsible for overseeing the general day-to-day operations of the study and lab and expected to perform the general functions: Ensure the accurate execution of the study protocol in accordance with Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA, and IRB; Provides supervision of research support staff, interns, and Community Health Workers; Communicate closely with the Associate Research Scientist and Principal Investigators and other members of the study team to provide updates about study progress and related issues; Serve as liaison between research team and community partners.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research Supervision: Assist with onboarding, training, and supervision of a team of community health workers, research assistants, trainees, and interns/volunteers; Develop staff training protocols, lead staff training, and performs staff evaluations; Conduct regular supervision meetings serving as a mentor to staff.
- Clinical Trial Support: Develop participant recruitment and engagement strategy and modifications as needed; Oversee fidelity to the protocol; Ensure proper informed consent process among all team; members; May conduct interviews with study participants; Manages tracking system for study payments.
- Program Support: Provide lay summaries on study progress to community partners; Assist with monthly reports; Works to ensure vision of community engagement is implemented including, organizing meetings, communications, and evaluation (evenings and some travel may be required); Facilitate meetings and webinars; Coordinate with appropriate Administrators to ensure timely payments of consultants.
- Research Support: Contributes to preparation of abstracts and presentations for conference and professional meetings; Assist with grant writing, manuscript preparations; May conduct literature reviews, or focus groups; Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required.
Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
- Strong background in program management
- Detailed record keeping
- Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook and other applications.
- Strong interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work independently and develop creative solutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Masters degree with 2 or more years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Terminal degree (PhD, DPH, EdD, ScD or equivalent)
- Prior experience in a health care settings. Experience with research studies involving human subjects.
- Knowledge of Black, Hispanic or other minority health
- Knowledge of nutrition and maternal health
- Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills
- Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently
- Time management skills and ability to work well under pressure
- Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail
- Must be able to follow study protocol rigorously
- Bilingual (e.g., Spanish, Creole)

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58,500.00 - $67,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
