The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Associate Research Scientist in New York, New York
Dec 23, 2024
The Engineered Protein Materials Laboratory (Obermeyer Research Group) is seeking an Associate Research Scientist (ARS) with experimental training in protein engineering, polymer physics, and biophysics or a related field to take part in studying the molecular grammar underlying the formation and rheological properties of engineered biomolecular condensates. The broad interest of the lab is to understand and engineer protein interactions to assemble these key biomolecules into functional materials to enable the design of synthetic organelles, protein delivery vehicles, and sustainable bio-based materials. Although no specific expertise or experience in these areas is strictly required, candidates should have a strong affinity for engineering biomolecular materials, the ability to develop projects independently, and a desire for high-risk, high-reward biological research. The lab is located at the Columbia Morningside Campus and is surrounded by a highly dynamic and multidisciplinary research environment, which provides a number of meaningful career development opportunities. Candidates from underrepresented backgrounds in science and academia are strongly encouraged to apply or inquire about more information about our research.
Candidates must have a PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, biophysics, or a related field and a working knowledge of protein engineering and biomolecular condensates. Candidates with fewer than 4 years of postdoctoral experience will be considered for a postdoctoral scholar position.
