Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Associate Research Scientist. We seek a person with a Ph.D. and strong quantitative background in a health services research field, including epidemiology, economics, biostatistics, or a related quantitative degree to join our research team as an associate research scientist. The New York University Grossman School of Medicines Health Evaluation and Analytics Lab (HEAL) has a portfolio of NIDA-funded research projects employing advanced statistical analyses of administrative data and Medicaid claims to conduct research on improvement of addictions treatment. In collaboration with the principal investigators (PIs), the associate research scientist will be responsible for the design of analyses, execution of analyses, and the supervision of the analytical work of junior analysts.
Job Responsibilities:
- Initiates, interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates research data analyses.
- Establishes standard procedures for development of analytical files and conduct of analyses
- Delegates analytical work to junior analysts.
- Ensures quality of all analytical work produced.
- Implements causal inference methodologies, difference-in-difference models, generalized linear models, multilevel models, machine learning models, and other analytical methods.
- Maintains knowledge of best-practices in statistical modeling.
- Interprets and communicates research findings to PIs and other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a MS degree with at least 1 year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. with two or more years of professional experience.
Experience working with large, real-world datasets.
Programming proficiency in Python, R, SQL, SAS, and Markdown and using version control software (i.e., GitHub).
Knowledge and experience implementing causal inference methodologies, difference-in-difference models, generalized linear models, multilevel models, machine learning models, and other analytical methods.
Experience collaborating on academic manuscripts and presentations.
Strong time-management and prioritization skills; ability to work well under pressure and in a team.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Capacity to provide supervision for more junior team members
Past experience working with health care data. This includes insurance claims data, administrative data, electronic health record data, or other registry databases. Relatedly, knowledge of commonly used coding systems (e.g., ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, NDC).
Experience supervising data analysts.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $75,000.00-$105,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
