Job Description
The Associate Researcher I position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to projects delving into the role of TDP-43 nuclear loss-of-function and novel mRNA splicing in Frontotemporal Dementia. Our goal is centered on unravelling neuronal splicing signatures associated with disease, investigating how these phenotypes can be modulated to influence neurodegeneration, and discerning the potential of a deeper understanding of novel mRNA splicing in the development of therapeutics and peripheral biomarkers for neurodegenerative conditions.
As part of our team, you will have access to a wealth of human biological, autopsied tissues, clinical, omics, and genetics data. Leveraging this invaluable resource, we aim to conduct detailed profiling of neuronal and glial cells at a single-cell and single nuclei resolution using cutting edge genomic technologies, enabling us to decipher the functional implications of variations in neurodegenerative diseases.
This position entails collaboration within a dynamic multidisciplinary research team. You will work under the supervision of Dr. Towfique Raj and other senior members of the lab. You will be based at the Ronald M. Loeb Center for Alzheimer’s Disease, located within the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in science or related field required; Candidates with a doctoral degree in neuroscience, neuropathology or neurobiology preferred
1 - 2 years of research/laboratory experience
Experience with human brain tissue handling
Responsibilities
Conduct research, or assist in the conduct of research, including the collection of information and samples, such as brain tissues
Provide technical support and services for other postdocs conducting research.
Isolate, identify and prepare brain tissues for sequencing
Postmortem Tissue: Tissue handling, nuclei isolation using S2 Singulator, nuclei quality control, flow cytometry (including FACS and FANS),
Sequencing: Follow existing protocols to perform single cell sequencing using 10x Genomics Chromium and Parse Evercode equipment under supervision; isolate nuclei isolation.
Lab Management: Ensure compliance with laboratory standards by overseeing day-to-day lab activities and maintaining quality control.

Compensation Statement
Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58661 - $74610.87 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
