Mount Sinai Health System Associate Researcher I - Structural Biology Research - Genetics in New York, New York

Job Description

Are you passionate about unraveling the mysteries of proteins and their role in diseases such as Alzheimer's and cancer? The Wang Laboratory at the Icahn School of Mount Sinai is seeking a motivated researcher to dive into groundbreaking structural biology research. The Associate Researcher will gain hands on experience with cutting edge techniques such as cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography in a collaborative environment. This is an incredible opportunity for recent graduates to enhance their skills and contribute to higher impact projects.

The Associate Researcher will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to express, purify, and analyze proteins of interest, contributing to structural studies that aim to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying disease. The role will involve conducting molecular biology and biochemistry experiments, supporting protein structure determination, and assisting in the preparation of experimental results for publication and presentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in science in biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics or a related field

  • 1 - 2 years of research/laboratory experience

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, and protein expression

  • Familiarity with cell culture, baculovirus systems or tissue culture work

  • Experience with protein purification techniques (e.g. affinity chromatography, gel filtration)

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Good communications skills and ability to work as part of a team

  • Willingness to learn new techniques and solve complex problems

Responsibilities

  • Conduct protein expressions in bacterial, insect and mammalian systems

  • Purify proteins using techniques such as affinity chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, and other biochemical methods

  • Assist in preparing samples for structural studies using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and X-Ray crystallography

  • Perform routine molecular biology tasks, including cloning, PCR and mutagenesis

  • Assist with structural and functional assays, including bio-physical characterization (e.g. fluorescence based assays, electrophoresis)

  • Contribute to laboratory maintenance, inventory and organization of reagents and samples

  • Participate in weekly laboratory meetings and contribute to research discussions

  • Collaborate with lab members on data analysis, and documentation of experimental protocols

Compensation Statement

Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58661 - $74610.87 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
