Macmillan Business Analyst, Royalties in New York, New York

Description

Macmillan is seeking a Business Analyst to join our Project Management Office (PMO) team. This role is responsible for gathering and analyzing business requirements, mapping workflows, and optimizing royalty management and Bibliosuite. The Business Analyst will serve as a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring seamless system enhancements, process improvements, and workflow optimization. The ideal candidate will have experience in requirements management, business process documentation, and business process mapping, with a deep understanding of royalties, finance, metadata workflows, and publishing technologies.

What you'll do:

  • Business Process Analysis & Documentation

  • Work closely with royalties, finance, and accounting teams to analyze, document, and optimize business processes, workflows, and system interactions.

  • Identify and document knowledge gaps, workflow inefficiencies, and system limitations, proposing solutions for improvement.

  • Develop detailed process maps, workflow diagrams, and user journey visualizations to streamline royalty processing, contract rights management, and metadata tracking.

  • Gain a deep understanding of business logic and applications supporting the royalties function and translate findings into clear, actionable process documents.

  • Requirements Gathering & Solution Development

  • Work with stakeholders to define and document functional and technical requirements, ensuring alignment with business needs.

  • Create user stories, use cases, and detailed business requirements to address system gaps and guide technical development.

  • Collaborate with technology teams to translate business needs into technical specifications for system enhancements, integrations, and process automation.

  • Work with technology teams to develop and test solutions, ensuring alignment with business needs and proper system functionality.

  • Process Optimization & Change Management

  • Propose and execute workflow changes to introduce useful redundancies, efficiency gains, and optimized processes for royalty management.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance system efficiency, user experience, and data accuracy.

  • Assist in change management efforts, ensuring that business teams adopt new workflows and system enhancements effectively.

  • Work with stakeholders to identify training needs and ensure users are well-equipped to leverage new system features and process improvements.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication

  • Act as a liaison between business users and technology teams, ensuring requirements are clearly communicated and understood.

  • Build strong relationships across royalties, finance, IT, and content management teams to facilitate cross-functional collaboration.

  • Provide regular status updates, reports, and insights to stakeholders and leadership.

What you'll bring:

  • Business Analysis & Process Improvement:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, preferably in publishing, media, or entertainment industries.

  • Strong experience in business process documentation, business process mapping, and workflow optimization.

  • Experience with requirements gathering, user story creation, and translating business needs into technical specs.

  • Knowledge of royalties management, finance, contract rights tracking, and metadata workflows a huge plus.

  • Experience working with publishing and rights management platforms, such as Bibliosuite, Klopotek, Consonance, Stison, FADEL Rights Cloud, LSC Publishing Solutions, and RoyaltyZone.

  • Ability to propose and execute process improvements to drive efficiency and reduce operational risks.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complexity and navigate change.

  • Collaboration & Communication:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical and business concepts.

  • Strong relationship-building and teamwork skills to collaborate with finance, IT, and operational teams.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Technical Knowledge & Systems:

  • Familiarity with system integrations, API documentation, and data mapping.

  • Experience with business process modeling tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart, BPMN, ARIS).

  • Proficiency in Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall methodologies for business analysis and project execution.

  • Experience with business intelligence tools, SQL, and reporting platforms (preferred).

  • Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):

  • CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional), PMI-PBA (PMI Professional in Business Analysis), IIBA Certification (ECBA, CCBA), or Agile BA Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.

This role will have an annual salary of $ 112,000 - 130,000
