Google Cloud Security Knowledge Exchange Technical Writer in New York, New York

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 6 years of experience creating content for technical audiences (e.g., developer documentation, Computer Science course material, or IT administration playbooks).

  • Experience writing for the web and with Markdown, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6 years of experience as a technical writer.

  • Experience assisting non-writers with developmental and copy editing.

  • Experience in cloud and infrastructure security.

  • Experience in internal technical writing.

  • Ability to advise and collaborate with Executive.

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $125,000-$185,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Collaborate with Cloud Security engineers, product managers and other cross-functional teams across Google to explain product concepts, capabilities, and critical customer journeys.

  • Work with other technical writers on the team to produce high quality technical documentation of our Security products and infrastructure in response to queries from customers, regulators, and partners.

  • Break down complex security concepts and capabilities into clear and easy to understand documentation with a well defined and intentional information architecture.

  • Tailor documentation to the specific audience for the piece, be that regulators, Google engineers, customer engineers, executives, or other technical decision makers outside Google.

  • Work with stakeholders to define and evolve the documentation strategy, set expectations and provide regular progress updates. Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others, and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.
