New York University Laboratory Associate (Bergelson Lab) in New York, New York
The Bergelson lab at NYU’s Department of Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Laboratory Associate.
This position is for a trainee preparing for a research path. It will provide development of technical skills; supervision by senior scientists incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and possible publication of research findings during appointment period.
Responsibilities may include:
Computational analysis on the ecology and evolutionary dynamics of microbial populations, microbial interactions and plant resistance traits, including their genetic basesGeneral laboratory management, including ordering, scheduling, equipment upkeep, maintaining
General laboratory management, including ordering, scheduling, equipment upkeep, maintaining regulatory compliance
Assist PI’s Bergelson and Pascual in designing presentation slides, reimbursements, budget management and light editing
Participation in large, collaborative research projects using plants, plant microbes and robotics, as necessary
Projects in the Bergelson lab investigate the ecology and evolution of plant–pathogen interactions, focusing primarily on Arabidopsis thaliana and its relatives, and the bacteria that reside within them. The approach is interdisciplinary, drawing upon tools from population genetics, molecular evolution, computational biology, ecological and evolutionary theory, field biology and chemistry to understand how ecological interactions shape evolutionary dynamics.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $59K - $65K. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
The ideal candidate will have an MS in Biology, with at least two years of computational experience. He or she will be highly organized, collaborative and get along well with others. This position is on-site.
