THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT AND POSITION… The Finance Department is split into two separate sections under the direction of the Deputy for Finance. The Finance Office manages budgeting, payables, receivables and like functions and the Comptroller’s Office handles accounting and reporting. The relationship between the Deputy for Finance, the Director of Finance, and the Comptroller is a critical partnership. They are required to refocus, reorient, and maintain a high-functioning, strong customer service-oriented finance function which is critical to meeting the needs of our large and diverse human services agency across all geographies where we serve. Both will be expected to work with Cayuga Centers’s President/CEO to ensure that the Office’s structure, processes, and practices consistently reflect current organizational needs, as well as finance and accounting best practices. Our finance department supports all our service programs, support departments, leadership and Board of Trustees by maintaining accounting records and analyzing the financial health of the organization. This makes a difference because our financial sustainability is critical for us to serve our communities and the role that you play in all of this is maintaining and administering budget tasks for all locations within the agency to ensure appropriate use of resources. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Planning & Analysis, the Senior Budget Analyst is responsible for assisting management with developing, preparing, and managing the organization’s annual budget. The role requires monitoring the budget throughout the year and deciding if changes are necessary for various programs or divisions. The position requires preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and various financial planning and cost control tasks. How you get to use your skills…

  • Develop agency-wide budgets and forecasts

  • Build detailed line-item budgets for multiple departments and divisions

  • Assist in the creation, maintenance, and reporting of budgets

  • Review budget proposals for completeness, accuracy, and compliance

  • Provide technical assistance to program managers in the monitoring of site-specific budgets

  • Compare and analyze actual results with budget and forecast to evaluate financial performance

  • Collaborate with department heads to develop budgets and forecasts

  • Ability to work independently and within a team

  • Assist with financial audits and annual compliance reports

  • Assist with special projects as assigned by management

Schedule: Exempt

  • Regular hours entail 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday

  • Must be flexible to meet program needs

  • Travel outside of work hours may be required

Experience and Skills:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field

  • Requires 3 to 5 years experience with budget and finance

  • Strong knowledge of financial and cost accounting methods and principles

  • Ability to present budgeting and financial information in an effective manner

  • Understanding of nonprofit allocation methods and administrative allocations

  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, budgets, and projections.

  • Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred

  • Ability to travel to all agency locations as required
