As a Client Tax Associate I within the Trusts and Estates and Tax Operations (TETO) team in Wealth Management (WM), you will play a crucial role in supporting the Trust and Estate (T&E) practice by coordinating the preparation and filing of tax returns. The TETO team provides technical expertise in interpreting and applying federal, state, and foreign laws and regulations impacting the tax filings of WM clients. Your primary objective is to ensure review of various data elements essential to accurate information reporting. You will have knowledge of various tax reporting functions, regulatory reporting requirements and be comfortable with high volumes, strict deadlines, and sophisticated clients. You will possess high-level written and verbal communication skills to explain technical reporting positions to internal partners and external clients. You will have exceptional organization and attention to detail, with the ability to troubleshoot and remediate rapidly.
Job Responsibilities
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the timely production of diverse tax reporting forms
Develop a comprehensive understanding of cross-functional business processes to identify automation opportunities and enhance client experiences
Lead tax projects to refine processes and procedures, including cross Line of Business (LOB) strategic initiatives
Establish and maintain a robust control environment that meets risk and audit requirements
Analyze data for consistency and accuracy; coordinate with relevant teams to implement necessary adjustments
Oversee data integrity reviews across multiple platforms with both on-shore and off-shore teams
Implement and support business-as-usual processes for continuous information reporting and withholding compliance
Deliver tax education, training, and presentations to client-facing and tax documentation teams as required
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
Over 5 years of experience in tax reporting
Proficiency in tax reporting (1099, 5498,1042-S, 2439, 8966, etc.) with familiarity in core processes for successful reporting seasons
Highly organized and detail-oriented with advanced written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask and communicate effectively with senior internal partners; willingness to accept direction and develop strong relationships
Exceptional decision-making capabilities, including problem identification, solution proposal, and change influence
In-depth understanding of regulatory reporting requirements and tax technical concepts, including foreign currency, derivatives, wash sales, etc.
Proven ability to interface positively with internal teams, colleagues, and senior management
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate tax issues in layman's terms
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Ability to re-prioritize focus across a broad array of simultaneous deliverables
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
Advanced degree or certification in Taxation, Accounting, or a related discipline preferred
Experience in a high-volume financial institution or public accounting firm preferred
Advanced knowledge of tax statements and year-end reporting
Experience with operations and product support preferred
Experience in process improvement and process mapping preferred
Advanced MS Excel skills required; experience with Alteryx preferred
