Posting Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Per-Diem Advanced Practice Nurse for the Medicine Department within New Jersey Medical School.The Advanced Practice Nurse-PD (APN) is responsible for screening, in accordance with the NJMS Global Tuberculosis Institute Lattimore Clinic policies and procedures and the Nursing Standards of Practice, provides leadership and clinical expertise in the assessment, planning, and treatment of patients in the Lattimore Clinic and additional State-funded clinic(s).Interacts in a collaborative fashion, under the direction of the Nurse Manager, with nursing and field staff to conduct patient TB training programs, research, and develop materials for physicians, nurses, and other relevant health care workers.Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Performs patient assessment and physical examinations within prescribed guidelines and instruction of physician.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic test to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and healthcare needs.
  • Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, social workers and other support services involved with the patient. Records finding and formulates a care plan based on patient's condition.
  • Teaches patient/significant others about health illness state and tuberculosis disease, infection, and medication.
  • Discusses case with physician and other health professionals to prepare and individualized care plan based upon patient assessment and the medical plan of care.
  • Refers patients to physician for consultation orto specialized health resources for treatment.
  • Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment, or related therapeutic procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Certified as either a Clinical Nurse specialist or a Nurse Practitioner in the State of New Jersey.
  • Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
  • At least two (2) years of related nursing experience, preferably as an advanced practice nurse required.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Certified as either a Clinical Nurse specialist or a Nurse Practitioner in the State of New Jersey.
  • Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the treatment of tuberculosis or other communicable disease is strongly preferred.
