SUMMARY:
- This position provides support to the Environmental Programs (EP) group, including but not limited to the air compliance program, the stormwater and wastewater compliance program and the waste program through environmental field work, site visits, coordination and oversight of contractors and consultants, recordkeeping, and database maintenance.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Supports the wastewater and stormwater permit compliance efforts which include but are not limited to: contract laboratory coordination of sample pick up and bottle drop off, sample set up and collection, review of laboratory reports for compliance, generation of Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), submission of DMRs to appropriate regulatory agencies, recordkeeping maintenance and organization of spaces occupied by wastewater/stormwater and air equipment.
Supports air permit compliance efforts, which include but are not limited to: recordkeeping compliance checks and maintenance, facility equipment audits, air permit application and renewal submissions, performance of other air permit related projects, as directed.
Supports the industrial wastewater systems (IWS) cleaning program with recordkeeping and periodic field oversight of the work.
Ensures compliance with existing environmental regulations, keeps abreast of new environmental regulations and alerts supervisor of potential compliance issues.
As directed, assists in regulatory inspections, provides environmental support to incidents such as spills and adverse weather events, as well as other abatement activities.
Performs environmental compliance audits of assigned NJ TRANSIT facilities. Participates in the department’s on–call spill response program. Provides support on other environmental projects/initiatives, as directed.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelors’ degree in Engineering/Environmental Science or related field. One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
Two (2) years of field experience related to environmental work.
HAZWOPER 40 hour trained and/or NJDEP N-2 Industrial Wastewater Operator license are preferred.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Ability to work with all levels of management and staff.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects with defined deadlines.
Detail-oriented
Strong organization skills
Self-starting and able to complete tasks, overcome challenges and solve problems with minimal supervision.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products, such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Familiar with NJDEP Field Sampling Procedures is preferred.
Ability to manage part-time staff and interns is preferred.
