Position Summary

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for all payroll, benefits and reporting related activities. They will ensure the integrity of the data for payroll and guarantee the confidentiality of all information for their assigned sites.

Position Responsibilities

  • Prepare, verify and process all payroll related payments, including regular pay, benefit payments, and special payments for hourly and salary associates for Oatey’s Canadian divisions (Currently Ontario and Quebec).

  • Complete, verify and process forms and documentation for administration of benefits such as pension plans, leaves, employment and medical insurance.

  • Manage the workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and on-time.

  • Prepare and balance end of period reports and perform reconciliation.

  • Manage the Group Benefit and Group Retirement Plan.

  • Complete, verify and process documentation for company benefits and ensure proper taxation of employer paid benefits.

  • Prepare and process monthly reports, including: Payroll month-end reports, journals entries, Worker’s Compensation claims, forms and remittances, and so forth

  • Ensure that the processing and completion of all payroll data is legally compliant and are categorized and allocated to correct cost centers.

  • Manage payroll transactions for the associate lifecycle including setting up new hires, direct deposit, benefit enrollments and changes, and processing terminations, including ROE’s.

  • Ensure the processing and completion of all payroll data is compliant with the legislation.

  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of all payroll transactions, remittances and reports

  • Respond to associate and government inquiries and resolve payroll discrepancies.

  • Verify, process and issue year-end reporting and forms : T4’s, Releve 1’s, Vacation Accrual, Pension Adjustments, Releve 1 summary, and so forth

  • Maintain payroll records in HRIS (Workday) and participate in process improvement projects.

  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Three (3) plus years of experience in a similar role payroll administration for both salaried and hourly associates.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll and payroll tax laws in Canada (Ontario and Quebec) required.

  • Two (2) plus years of experience with Workday Payroll is required.

  • Bilingualism – French and English nice to have.

  • Active member with the Canadian Payroll Association (CPM or PCP designation an asset).

  • Experience managing multiprovincial payroll and benefits.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Able to work independently and meet the set goals.

  • A flexible team player with the ability to work successfully in a matrix environment.
