McLaughlin Research Corporation has an exciting opening for a part-time

Electrical Engineer. The primary responsibilities will be evaluating, testing and certifying Lithium-ion (Li-ion) and other battery technologies for implementation across a suite of Autonomous Underwater vehicles. The role includes involvement throughout the entire development and sustainment lifecycle of the vehicles, including new system design, modification to existing systems, and research and development of new technologies for performance and mission enhancement.

Duties:

  1. Support the design and certification of battery systems for Autonomous Underwater vehicles.
  2. Participate in a multi-discipline engineering team to design, implement, and support battery systems for use in commercial and DoD applications.
  3. Collaborate with internal engineering teams to optimize battery configurations to meet overall electric vehicle performance targets.
  4. Oversee the certification of batteries for a various environments and applications.
  5. Perform hazard analysis for Li-ion and other technologies.
  6. Be the customer point of contact for the battery certification, and own/manage any battery risks on the program.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience in an engineering discipline. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience in an engineering discipline. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience in an engineering discipline.
  2. Possess subject matter expertise in battery certification and hazard analysis (specifically 9270 and 9310 testing).
  3. Experience working with cell/module/pack levels and familiarity with safety testing standards.
  4. Knowledge of Li-ion testing protocols or experience with battery testing/design.
  5. Knowledge of safety hazards of working with and electrical and mechanical testing of Li-ion and other batteries.
  6. Must be able to obtain and maintain a US DoD security clearance, which requires US Citizenship
  7. Strong written and verbal communications skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels from junior staff through Senior Leadership

Preferred Additional Skills:

  1. Experience in battery pack design, integration, and assembly preferred
  2. Experience with Power supply design and Battery Management Systems a plus.
