As the Group Engineering Manager for Word Web team, you will be responsible for leading a team of 50 talented, deeply experienced engineers in delivering core word functionalities in the web, as well as other features and supporting engineering excellence in Word Web. You will collaborate closely with other Word Group Engineering Managers to deliver ambitious, high-quality, and coherent experiences across the product constellation. You will collaborate with other leaders across Microsoft to ensure that Word integrates seamlessly with other products and platforms. You will be a key leader in the Word mission, bringing innovative AI-powered experiences to our most loyal and established customer base. You will sustain and support a long history of in-market versions and experiences and drive innovation in our internal and external systems to keep Word thriving for many decades to come.

You are effective at supporting your team to build actionable and incremental plans that mitigate risks and deliver incremental and predictable progress towards your ambitious objectives.

You identify gaps in our product data and proactively drive filling them, working without borders to achieve the right result. Responsibilities

  • Lead an engineering team, own product areas as well as define the technical and product roadmap.

  • Build reliable and scalable systems, establishing rigorous engineering processes to ensure service quality and agility of delivery of new capabilities.

  • Hire, retain and grow engineering talent.

  • Partner with Product Management, Design and Data Science to drive execution excellence across disciplines and deliver customer focused experiences with great business impact.

  • Be responsible for creating and fostering a healthy, collaborative, inclusive & supportive team culture.

  • Encourage innovation across all stages of product lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related disciplines or equivalent practical experience in software engineering industry

  • 15+ years of software development experience building commercial grade software, including experience in large scale, high availability services and experiences

  • 5+ years of experience in product and people leadership, including people management

  • 15+ years industry experience building, shipping, and sustaining full stack products

  • Industry experience maintaining and continuously delivering services is a differentiator.
