Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic Norfolk, VA area

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to diagnose and repair issues in diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, transmission, steering, and other systems. The role involves performing preventative maintenance on heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, and heavy haul trucks, as well as welding or fabrication tasks as needed. The successful candidate will also prepare work orders, order parts, fuel equipment, and maintain a daily log. Maintaining a clean and orderly work area and performing additional assignments as needed is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair issues in diesel engines

  • Diagnose and repair issues with hydraulics, brakes, transmission, steering, and other systems

  • Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, heavy haul trucks

  • Perform welding or fabrication tasks on equipment as necessary

  • Prepare work orders and order parts

  • Fuel equipment and maintain daily log

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and meet other housekeeping needs

  • Perform additional assignments as needed

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years experience in the heavy construction industry

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair construction and heavy equipment

  • Experience as a Crane Mechanic, Loader Mechanic, Dozer Mechanic, and Excavator Mechanic

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Diesel technician or mechanic degree is a plus

  • Welding experience is a plus

Work Environment

The work environment is outdoors, Monday through Saturday, with 10-12 hour days. The role requires the ability to perform physical activities that involve considerable use of arms, legs, and the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00
