ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Materials Strategy and Project Development Specialist will ensure the accurate and timely procurement of materials by preparing and managing the Bill of Materials (BOM) and coordinating with vendors and the procurement team. This role is responsible for maintaining optimal inventory levels and promptly resolving any material-related issues to support project success.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare project BOM that accurately reflects the required materials based on scope of work.
Review project scope of work and associated procedures and drawings to identify all materials required.
Organize the BOM and implement a procurement plan to ensure timely, accurate, and quality material supply at the right price and source.
Follow up on deliveries and expedite short shipments.
Create any required Inventory items in advance of purchase to facilitate Engineering support and maintain BOM.
Work with Procurement/Stores to establish and maintain appropriate inventory levels
Source another product through the vendor/client relationships for any defects or product discontinuations.
Develops and maintains vendor/client relationships to determine what product is allowable to be sourced based on project specific scope.
Takes the engineering drawings and designs, converts them into the manufacturing BOM so that when a requisition is handed over to procurement for the final step of issuing a purchase order, the package is complete with all pricing, scheduling and parts required from the vendor.
Prepare and submit Requisitions to Procurement to ensure materials are purchased accurately and in a timely manner.
Prepare summaries for Request for Quote (RFQ) for non-generic components.
Retrieve, verify revision, and group appropriate drawings.
Provide support to Procurement throughout RFQ and evaluation process.
Manage flow of materials as per project requirements budget and schedule.
Liaison with suppliers and engineering team to resolve questions and problems.
Coordinate the shipping of any ONTC supplied materials to supplier and coordinate customer parts shipping and tracking.
Arrange and coordinate any postproduction requirements as part of Project Materials Management. Monitor Material Exception process to limit impact on material costs and availability and requisition any shortfalls.
Provide support to Senior Manager, Engineering and QA in processing/attending to warranties (requisition parts, arrange shipping of materials).
Support project documentation as it relates to materials management to ensure that the scope follows customer requirements.
Identify required vendor and product documentation and submit for approval (Health and Safety, Contract Requirements).
Provide material management support to the bid team to ensure that the required materials are available as per production budget and schedule.
REQUIREMENTS:
College Diploma in Business Management, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a related field
At least 2 years of experience in material handling, warehousing, inventory, and/or logistics, material planning, purchasing, or other related supply chain activities.
At least 2 years of experience in the industry, project management, engineering, quality assurance, procurement and rail industry specific knowledge
Logistics and/or inventory management computer system
Good understanding of materials processes including BOM, RFQ, shipping, receiving, picking and inventory control.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel level is considered an asset.
Proficient in computer skills with a general knowledge of logistics and/or inventory management system.
Ability to interpret Mechanical Drawings and Documents
Well versed in project management
Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate directly with others on materials management matters
Self-directed and organized and able to prioritize workload to achieve goals
Ability to work independently
Excellent ability to solve material issues with little guidance
Demonstrate sound, fact-based decision-making ability
Committed to company health & safety
1-2 years of experience in supply chain management (large scale projects) is considered an asset
