Job Title: Production Technician

Job Description

Essential functions include the efficient operation of the specialty chemicals plant. Candidates will work with powdered chemicals used in the polymer making process—used in plastics in waste water treatment plants. Candidates must be able to work at elevated heights and consistently move between four levels of the facility. Initially, candidates will shadow other operators, document processes, and perform basic tasks. Once trained, this position is responsible for the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation of the chemicals' plants, including utilities, bulk storage, and warehouse. Responsibilities include operating plant machinery and equipment, performing repetitive tasks, and remaining stationary for extended periods. This may include opening and closing valves, monitoring instrumentation panels, and reporting findings from gauges. Candidates will dump 10-kilo bags into containers, utilize basic math skills to track and monitor plant data, and follow procedures. Duties also include climbing ladders, operating forklifts, and performing manual tasks lifting up to 50 lbs. Candidates must stay current on operating procedures, emergency procedures, safety protocols, and policies. They will move about the premises daily and between buildings, often exposed to the elements and weather conditions. Candidates are expected to perform independently and precisely follow verbal and written instructions. They must communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management. Training lasts 1-2 weeks before starting work. Candidates must pass a physical, fit test, and pulmonary function test. They will wear a full-face respirator or Tyvek hood, and a Tyvek suit for 3-4 hours each day, ensuring material does not contact their skin.

Hard Skills

Job Type

This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 6 Month(s).

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in North Chesterfield, Virginia.

Work Environment

Clean room is air-conditioned; however, the rest of the plant is not. The facility has multiple levels, requiring walking up and down stairs. Candidates will be exposed to dry chemical materials, dust, noise, fluctuating temperatures, and both hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals. The environment involves working with flammable and toxic materials. Currently running 8-hour shifts, rotating every 2 weeks (1st shift: 7 AM - 3 PM, 2nd shift: 3 PM - 11 PM, 3rd shift: 11 PM - 7 AM), Monday through Friday.
