Carleton College Maintenance Carpenter in Northfield, Minnesota

The Maintenance Carpenter position performs a wide variety of carpentry functions framing; finish work; structural repairs; furniture repairs; drywall work; shelving installation; door preps; cabinetry construction; window, door, roof, siding, stair, and floor repairs, etc. This trade works with construction materials found in commercial as well as residential construction. Union Salary and Benefits: The full-scale wage for the Maintenance Carpenter position is $37.65 per hour. New employees will be hired with a one-year training period. At the start of the training period, wages are reduced by $2.00 per hour from the base classification rates. Employees will receive a $1.00 per hour increase after six months, and another $1.00 per hour increase after twelve months. Days/Hours: Monday Friday, 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: Perform all types of carpentry-related building repairs; fabricates components, when necessary, to complete repairs. Assist Locksmith as needed Install, repair and maintain locksets, padlocks, exit hardware, door alarms, and other security hardware and systems. Install, repairs and maintains door closing devices. Key cylinders, cuts keys and controls key blanks. Provide back-up coverage to the storeroom. Disassemble, repair and reassemble furniture, cabinets, doors, and similar work. Construct, assemble and install cabinetry and counter/table tops. Install and repair acoustic ceiling systems. Hang pictures, bulletin boards, white boards, and similar tasks. Construct walls, hang and preps doors, and other finish carpentry tasks. Perform emergency roof and roofing repair. Assist in coordinating the activities of outside carpentry and roofing contractors as needed. Install, repair, manufacture, and restore all types of glazing, including window walls, thermopanes, safety glass, stained glass, operating sashes, storm windows, sky lights, doors, mirrors, display cases, window guards, sneeze guards, lampshades/covers, and fixtures. Perform glass cutting, grinding, and polishing processes. Install, maintain, and repair window shades, blinds, drapery and traverse rods, projection screens, and window screens. Fabrication of window shades and screens. Prepare, install and maintain window balance systems. Construct, repair and/or alter canvas and fabric articles. Maintain fire extinguisher inventory; installs and replaces fire extinguishers as needed. Install, replace, repair vinyl base, floor tiles, vinyl stair treads, restroom dispensers, and non-skid stripping. Schedule maintenance and repair work to achieve efficiency and minimize disruptions to normal routines of areas affected. Assist in evaluating building materials, furniture and carpentry equipment and supplies to be used by the College. Estimate labor time and supply cost for some projects. Coordinate work between other departments and trades. Conduct inventory audits of supplies and tools. Maintain carpentry equipment. Assist other Facilities operations as needed or directed. Direct activities of student workers and other temporary employees. Assist Maintenance operations as directed. Perform other duties as assigned. Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
