Department Of Energy Data Scientist in Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Summary This position is part of the Office of Science - Office of Scientific and Technical Information, Department of Energy. As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for supporting development, pipeline design, and implementation of applications supporting dissemination of the Department of Energy Research and Development information. Responsibilities As a Data Scientist, you will: Develop and oversee computational algorithms and statistical methods to analyze data and find relationships and patterns in large volumes of data. Analyze unique and highly specialized datasets using a variety of data analytic tools. Ensure software architecture and data pipeline usage is in compliance with Federal requirements and regulations. Recommend algorithms or tools to support the design and build of scalable data pipelines. Develop, modify, and provide recommendations on data visualization, scientific and technical Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other data science tools (e.g., machine learning Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. GS-12 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2out of 3 of the following: Identifying and analyzing advancements in application development concepts, techniques, and tools; Utilizing data tools and techniques to process large, datasets into structured formats for matching, analysis, or estimation; Assisting with coding in various programming languages (such as Python or JAVA) to conduct various phases of data science projects. GS-13 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2out of 3 of the following: Designing and developing data analytics/science related products using techniques such as machine learning, natural language processing, robotics process automation, and artificial intelligence; Conducting analysis using software and/or programming languages such as Python or Java to test hypotheses and predict outcomes; Using data tools and techniques to process large datasets into structured formats for matching, analysis, or estimation "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
