JOB SUMMARY:

Perform Lead Grounds Maintenance duties at a Department of Transportation Rest Area facility in an efficient and effective manner.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The list of essential functions below is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this job. Other duties may be assigned based on business needs.

  • Oversee the activities of the grounds maintenance staff to ensure the accomplishment of daily activities when the supervisor is not present.
  • Perform specified grounds maintenance support according to specified contract methods.
  • Perform grounds maintenance tasks to include:
    • Mow, edge, and trim assigned sections of lawn
    • Blow and dispose of all lawn debris properly.
    • Keep Lawn areas green and healthy year-round.
    • Ensure proper fertilization of grounds at scheduled intervals.
    • Maintain the appearance of bushes shrubs and vegetation.
  • Ensure all equipment (gas and electrical) is operating properly and safely under established procedures. Keep the Supervisor timely informed of equipment problems, major repair needs, and quality issues.
  • Ensures quality assurance standards are met by doing visual inspections
  • Provide ongoing training to grounds maintenance staff
  • Maintain and use supplies and equipment under established procedures

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year experience in a leadership role
  • Prior experience working with grounds maintenance equipment
  • Employer conducts dug screen and background check for access to the work areas
  • Employer conducts motor vehicle record check.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Experience operating a zero-turn lawn mower

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.

  • Attentive to detail for quality performance.
  • If required to drive, a current driver's license for required travel. May be required to drive the personal vehicle during work hours. Not all individuals will have to drive for this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requirements will vary depending on the assigned tasks.

This position requires the following: repetitive lifting, push/pull, carrying, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and prolonged standing.

Will involve lifting/moving up to 40 pounds frequently.
