About the Division:
The *Fire Prevention Division *is active in providing a variety of Fire Protection services including all risk mobilization{tabindex="0" rel="nofollow"}, fire inspections {tabindex="0" rel="nofollow"}on licensed care facilities, plan review {tabindex="0" rel="nofollow"}of schools, data collection{tabindex="0" rel="nofollow"}, analysis, {tabindex="0" rel="nofollow"}hazardous materials training{tabindex="0" rel="nofollow"}, and the licensing and certification of the fire sprinkler{tabindex="0" rel="nofollow"}, fireworks{tabindex="0" rel="nofollow"}, and cigarette{tabindex="0" rel="nofollow"} industries to both public and private sectors.[]{#outreach tabindex="0"} These sections provide planning, training, and technical assistance for firefighters and emergency responders who are mobilized for statewide emergencies such as hazardous materials, earthquakes, nuclear facilities, as well as other high-risk situations.

Duties
The Deputy State Fire Marshal in this position is responsible for:
Serving as a Technical Expert in the fire sprinkler and fireworks licensing and certification program.
- Act as a licensing specialist with independent approval of license applications. Assist both industries through the process to obtain the proper license or certification.
- Develop and provide technical education and training programs for both industries, including managing the program certification test banks, scheduling and proctoring exams, and participating in public education activities.
- Assist local jurisdictions in understanding the applicable fire sprinkler and fireworks laws.
Conducting audits and/or investigations of licensees for compliance to the fire sprinkler and/or fireworks laws.
- Develop methodologies, processes, and procedures for conducting licensing investigations into allegations of unlicensed, uncertified, or problems with work activities in fireworks and fire sprinkler industries.
- Receive initial complaint, gather evidence, conduct timely and thorough investigations, and recommend solutions.
- Complete inspections of fire sprinkler systems to ensure compliance with applicable codes and recalls that have been established due to dysfunctional parts and components.
Serving on the Fire Mobilization Team during the summer months by acting as a Mobilization Specialist when the Washington State Fire Service Resources Mobilization Plan has been approved for implementation.
