SUNY Oneonta Discovery and Systems Librarian in Oneonta, New York
The James M. Milne Library at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Discovery & Systems Librarian. Working both independently and with a dynamic team of partners, the Discovery & Systems Librarian improves and sustains a variety of staff-facing and public-facing library systems to ensure reliable and low-barrier access to the library's collections and resources. The ideal candidate possesses a love of learning, the ability to think critically with a dash of ingenuity and enjoys learning new technology. The twelve-month, tenure-track librarian reports to the Dean of the Library and holds the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian, with an initial two-year appointment. Milne Library employs 23 full-time staff members, and our goal is to support learning and scholarship through the collection, curation, preservation and sharing of knowledge. The James M. The Discovery & Systems Librarian is responsible for managing library systems, including the library services platform (Alma) and discovery layer (Primo VE). Working closely with the Emerging Technology Librarian and Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Librarian in providing integrated library technology operations and services, the Discovery and Systems Librarian provides leadership in the development and enhancement of staff- and public-facing systems and collaborates to coordinate, assess, and improve LSP and discovery experiences. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to be flexible in a changing environment. To meet tenure-track requirements, the successful candidate will perform effectively as a librarian, serve on library and campus committees, make scholarly contributions to the field, and pursue ongoing professional development. Duties include but are not limited to: Manages integration of the library's suite of discovery and digital access platforms. Maintains and implements as needed best practices, procedures, and workflows. Integrates strategic collaboration with the Emerging Technology Librarian and Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Librarian. Proactive, timely engagement and consensus-seeking with internal and external partners. Co-leads the Library Technology Team, which works to further the library's goal of meeting the University's diverse library technology needs. Collaborates closely with the campus Information Technology Services (ITS) division and serves as the library representative and point of contact on a set of technology teams and work groups. Actively participates in regional, national, and international communities of practice in library systems and technology. Maintains appropriate statistics regularly and meets benchmarks. Participates in liaison duties including outreach and collection development to assigned academic departments. Participates in department and University-wide committees, events, and professional organizations. Other duties or projects assigned as appropriate to department and library needs. Requirements:Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in library or information sciences from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent credential) at the time of employment. Strong technical skills, including knowledge of library software and systems such as integrated library systems, discovery systems, authentication software, openURL linking standards, or metadata standards. Minimum 1-year experience in library systems and discovery. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work on a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred: Project management experience. Experience working in an academic library or academic setting. Experience working in a consortial environment. Experience troubleshooting complex problems including system issues and access problems. Understanding of accessibility standards and guidelines. Knowledge of data privacy and security. Knowledge of digital preservation including concepts and tools. Experience working with and/or serving diverse populations. Minimum 3-years hands-on management, development, or maintenance experience in systems and discovery. Alma Administration certification.
