Job Title: Medical AssistantJob Description
The Medical Assistant will be responsible for performing a wide range of administrative and clinical tasks to assist healthcare providers in the exam room and help manage the flow of patients through the clinic. Day-to-day tasks may include measuring vital signs, recording medical histories, preparing exam rooms, assisting with minor procedures, scheduling appointments, and processing laboratory samples.
Responsibilities
Obtain the patient's medical and medication history and document in EMR.
Measure and record a patient's vital signs.
Prepare patients for examination or treatment.
Assist the physician or physician's assistant in performing examinations or treatments.
Administer injections and accurately withdraw medication to be administered.
Use medical equipment for spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal pump programmers.
Function as part of a multi-disciplinary team and participate in a comprehensive plan of care.
Perform administrative tasks such as typing, scheduling appointments, and maintaining medical records.
Handle front desk duties, including patient check-in.
Maintain professionalism and respect patient privacy at all times.
Ensure punctual and consistent attendance.
Demonstrate excellent time management skills.
Critically think and make appropriate decisions.
Maintain and clean rooms and equipment.
Restock supplies and take inventory of supplies needed.
Essential Skills
Certified Medical Assistant with 3 years back office experience in Orthopedics or pain management.
Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT coding.
Experience with scheduling procedures and obtaining authorizations for upcoming cases.
Ability to handle heavy phone calls and communicate with hospitals and surgery centers.
Knowledge of insurance authorization processes.
Basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology related to pain management.
Proficiency in medical terminology and electronic medical records (EMR).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
Comfortable working with patients of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and medical office policies.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
Bilingual in Spanish or another common language spoken in the local community.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
BLS certification or CPR certified.
Strong computer skills.
Strong phone etiquette.
Detail-oriented with the ability to fill prescription requests.
Strong communication skills with patients, providers, pharmacies, and labs.
Work Environment
This role is in a multispecialty Orthopedics and Pain Management practice. The practice is known for its family-oriented culture with a tight-knit and welcoming team. The work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Staff faculty includes professionals from UCI, Western Medical School, SCU PA program, UCLA Drew PA program, and Keck Graduate Institute PA program, working alongside 9 providers. The environment is fast-paced, and the role requires professionalism, respect for patient privacy, and the ability to work under pressure.
