Emory Healthcare/Emory University Laboratory Coordinator, Full-Time Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor of Chemistry in Oxford, Georgia

Oxford College, a unique liberal arts college within Emory University, located 36 miles east of Atlanta on Emory’s original campus in Oxford, Georgia, invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible, Laboratory Coordinator and Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor of Chemistry to begin August 2024. This position may be renewed for up to three years, pending budgetary approval, curricular need, and performance evaluations.

The successful candidate will coordinate and teach multiple sections of first- and second-year chemistry laboratory courses. During fall semesters, the primary responsibilities of this position will be coordinating and teaching organic chemistry laboratory courses (Chemistry 203L); during spring semesters, the primary responsibilities will be coordinating and teaching biochemistry laboratory courses (Chemistry 204L). As these laboratory courses are at the second-year undergraduate level, it has been our experience that a proficient chemist of any subdiscipline can be successful in this role.

The laboratory coordinator responsibilities involve coordination of the teaching laboratories, laboratory preparation, administration of the laboratory learning management system (Canvas) site, equipment setup and maintenance, ordering, environmental health and safety compliance, and training and supervision of undergraduate student workers. Emory University has recently implemented an HHMI funded curriculum redesign with an emphasis on the first two years of the chemistry major. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the laboratory curriculum of the future in Oxford College’s science facility intentionally designed to promote student-faculty collaboration, scholarship, and innovative teaching in STEM.
