Job Description

Regional Market Access Manager

East and West Midlands

Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercialises innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world. Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus include HIV, liver diseases, cancer, and serious respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.

The Regional Market Access Manager role is a field-based, customer-facing & cross-therapy role, with a primary focus on ensuring broad access for current & future Gilead medicines. Additionally, the role is tasked with optimising funding & pathways for service delivery at NHSE regional, Integrated Care System (ICS) and hospital level. This is a hybrid commercial/non promotional role.

This role will sit within the UK & Ireland Market Access Function and will report to one of the Regional Market Access Field Team Leaders.

The Regional Market Access Managers time will be focused on the therapeutic areas of HIV, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis D, PBC, Cell Therapy & Oncology.

Specifically, this role will involve:

  • Leading & implementing the cross-portfolio Gilead market access strategy across defined NHSE regions.

  • Mapping out and developing strong working relationships with relevant regional NHSE, ICS & Local Authority commissioning stakeholders to enable implementation of Gilead access strategies.

  • Close proactive collaboration with Gilead cross functional teams to ensure alignment between national and regional/local plans.

  • Accountability for the timely inclusion of Gilead medicines onto local & regional formularies.

  • Removal of any regional or local barriers to patient access.

  • Developing a deep understanding of the local policy & payer environment, understanding local NHS priorities & bringing these insights back into the organisation to inform commercial strategies.

  • Scoping out potential opportunities for Gilead within the changing NHS environment, specifically ICS organisations & Cancer Alliances, feeding recommendations into the brand and market access teams and identifying the key decision makers with whom future interactions should occur.

  • Articulating and refining brand value propositions through use of approved Gilead Payer Tools and messaging.

  • Identification of opportunities to optimise funding for service elements (e.g. patient pathways) in the therapeutic areas within which Gilead works.

The candidate will be responsible for developing and sustaining highly effective, credible, productive and compliant working relationships between Gilead and the following external stakeholders:

  • Regional and Area NHS England Specialised Commissioning Teams.

  • ICB Commissioners & other key decision makers.

  • Provider Trust Level Budget Holders / Commissioners.

  • Regional & Trust Level Procurement & Specialist Pharmacists.

  • Regional CRG Members & Clinical Leads.

  • Regional and local Public Health Commissioners (Directors of Public Health, UKSHA, OHID).

  • Local Authority Commissioners.

  • Community initiative stakeholders e.g. Fast-Track Cities

  • Other relevant decision makers.

Experience & Capability Requirements:

  • Market Access experience including Specialised Commissioning Payer experience with proven success in role.

  • Experience of developing strong & successful relationships & partnerships with NHS Payers.

  • Blood Borne Virus &/or Oncology Commercial Experience.

  • Proven Sales Excellence.

  • Breadth of experience in Market Access desirable e.g. leading HTA processes, developing payer value propositions and material development.

  • Ability to prioritise and flex dependent on the needs & requirements of the business.

  • Be comfortable with ambiguity & deal constructively with problems that do not have clear solutions or outcomes.

  • Strategic thinking and ability to influence internal senior managers to adopt new & innovative ideas and strategies.

  • Commissioning experience desirable.
