Position Summary

General Environmental Health & Safety work encompasses activities related to the environment including the broader community impacted by environmental hazards including:

• Developing and implementing environmental health and safety programs, processes, and procedures

• Developing, maintaining, and improving an environmental accident and investigation process to identify root causes and perform corrective actions

• Delivering training, learning and development requirements to employees

• Ensuring the organization is fully compliant with all legislative and organization requirements for safeguarding the environment, while protecting lives and assets

• Maintaining relationships with the community, environmental groups, and other stakeholders impacted by the environmental performance of the organization

Responsibilities

  • Ensure environmental compliance and associated report preparation.

  • Coordinate Environmental Management System (EMS) conformance and improvement.

  • Review plant Environmental Aspects and Legal & Other Requirements on a scheduled basis, utilizing the EMS.

  • Drive energy reduction, water conservation and waste reduction on a scheduled basis through the use of the EMS, objectives and targets, and collaboration with plant staff.

  • Resolve environmental compliance issues at the plant and local level, if possible, and request Business Unit Management assistance for findings that need further evaluation and additional resources. Consider business impacts in environmental decisions, with compliance as the goal; evaluate environmental aspects in all business decisions.

  • Position requires continuous review of regulatory changes that affect the plant. In addition to the tools established by Bridgestone Environmental Affairs to accomplish this, the Environmental Coordinator II is expected to establish contact with applicable environmental agency staff and periodically contact them for updates.

Minimum Qualifications

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
