BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers' storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for leading contractor safety, industrial hygiene, and other EHS related duties at terminal locations in the Gulf Area. The position will assist in the radiation safety and emergency response programs in the Gulf Area. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITES

  • Promote EHS awareness by building on existing contractor culture and programs strengths, contributing communication with all contractor employees, and promoting positive reinforcement of safety and health requirements to contractor leadership.
  • Lead the monthly contractor safety meeting and participate in the quarterly Contractor Alliance.
  • Schedule and facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) meetings for contractor incidents using the DNV SCAT incident investigation technique.
  • Manage KM incident database and ensure timely completion of project safety incident investigations and associated action items.
  • Represent EHS in project prestart up safety reviews for Gulf Area projects.
  • Track contractor trends and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure they are readily available for review by the KM management team.
  • Conduct formal and informal site audits, job audits and inspections on a weekly basis or as directed; communicate non-compliance to stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Audit contractor program compliance with KMT policies and procedures on a routine basis
  • Assist project contractor personnel and KM project managers with implementation and interpretation of site EHS requirements.
  • Provide support for Industrial Hygiene projects, including noise, air monitoring, and mold abatement.
  • Provide support to regional ERTs in training and response activities.
  • Serve as the regional Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
  • Complete compliance related tasks on time with appropriate closure status.
  • Other duties as assigned by the EHS Director for Gulf Area.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors' degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Physical Sciences, Industrial Hygiene/Safety Management or related Natural Sciences preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

  • Working knowledge of OSHA and applicable safety regulations or policies concerning petrochemical safety, contractor safety and/or industrial operations.
  • Technical experience in evaluating safety regulations and developing company-specific procedures and guidelines that meet the intent of those regulations.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in safety related position for a terminal or petrochemical facility.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and have willingness to use personal and/or company vehicle in the course of employment.
  • Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones; such as back ground checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

  • Demonstrate behavior constant with Kinder Morgan Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE) Program.
  • Exceptional PC Skills - MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and other Office Suite or KM specific software.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, including tracking and managing large projects, and see projects to completion while maintaining confidentiality (as necessary).
  • Strong ability to network within the KM organization and contractor leadership in order to support EHS effort.
  • Work with field personnel to identify solutions to arising EHS issues and audit findings.
  • Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and work with minimal direct supervision.
  • Must possess general understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices and processes relate to the material handling business segment, associated business units, and internal and external customers.
  • Solid leadership, communication, motivation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage projects(s) that will include working with individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds and experience levels.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s). Prioritize work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow company rules.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The position is required to participate in an on-call rotation for incidents and injuries after regular business hours.
  • Position is required carry a company laptop home after established business hours
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, etc. for extended periods of time without injury.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
