Naval Air Systems Command INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER/SCIENTIST in Patuxent River, Maryland

Summary You will serve as a Sense and Avoid Subject Matter Expert for the Core Avionics Engineering Division in the Avionics Engineering Department under the Mission Systems Group of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV. Responsibilities You will support the Navy in Industry Special committees to Develop and finalize sense and avoid MOPS. You will develop your expertise with Sense and Avoid, ACASxu Systems, and Due Regard Operations. You will provide support for the Certification of Avionics Systems. You will provide technical design, development, integration, qualification, production, and in-service support of avionics systems. You will prepare avionics system specifications, statements of work, Contractor Data Deliverable Lists, Engineering Change Proposals, Technical Directives, and other documentation technically required to execute duties. You will prepare engineering technical strategies and plans such as technical roadmaps, engineering staffing and development plans, and strategies to address avionics diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS). You will provide technical analyses in support of trade-off studies, engineering investigations, hardware and software architectures, hardware and software compatibility, avionics software and hardware modifications, and related upgrades. You will provide subject matter expertise in support of Airworthiness processes. You will liaison with other aviation technical communities for in-service technical problems. (e.g. integrated logistic support reviews, design reviews, in-process technical manual reviews and reliability and maintainability reviews). You will represent the command and our customer(s) as the technical point of contact for assigned avionics systems. You will be responsible for the integration and validation of avionics hardware and software integration systems into a M and S environment prior to aircraft integration. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the DP-03 (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Serve as a subject matter expert responsible for leading complex avionics systems development, acquisition, and integration for multiple Unmanned Naval Aviation platforms as assigned; 2) Provide support for Technical analyses, analysis of alternatives, Systems requirements development, RMB support, sustainability, industry participation in FAA Special Committees to develop industry standards, and process management for Sense and Avoid Technology; 3) Apply working knowledge of Collision Avoidance Systems and Transponders, and knowledge of ground stations and Radar systems, and experience leading a team of diverse subject matter expertise.
