THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is on the lookout for a qualified candidate to take on the role of Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager. In this pivotal position, the individual will oversee highway maintenance operations within a designated area of a County Maintenance Organization. This entails comprehensive planning for all tasks executed in the region, as well as the management of various general crews assigned to that area. Additionally, the role includes overseeing agility-related initiatives and specialized crew operations. The Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager will provide direct supervision to crew supervisors, ensuring effective hands-on management of projects as they arise. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The individual in this role is responsible for identifying the necessary maintenance tasks for a specific area by assessing the condition of the highways, negotiating for the necessary manpower and equipment, and addressing the region's critical needs.

Additionally, the individual must assess the performance of subordinate foremen in executing scheduled activities and implement corrective measures as needed to achieve the established goals.

Furthermore, the individual evaluates the competencies of the subordinate staff and provides recommendations for training and development opportunities aimed at enhancing overall performance.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • This position may be eligible for Alternate Work Schedule (AWS) upon successful completion of probationary period.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1; or

  • Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
