Job Title: Billing Specialist

Department: Psychiatry Admin

Location: Penn Behavioral Health Market Street- 3535 Market St

Hours: Full Time

Summary:

  • The Billing Specialist provides billing and insurance knowledge, expertise and oversight in support of the department's effort to effectively manage its revenue cycle to ensure expedient claims processing and payment for services. The position performs a variety of functions including working in EPIC APM work queues to perform charge review, claim edits, rejections and department specific billing issues. The Billing Specialist serves as the billing liaison to the Admin staff across divisions along with the coding and business office departments. The Billing Specialist will respond to day-to-day billing inquiries and assistance with EPIC APM related questions regarding work queue management as well as any billing issues related to benefit coverage, financial responsibility and account follow up.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage EPIC APM work queues related to the following functions: charge review, claim edits, rejections and department specific billing issues.

  • Resolve benefits and billing issues for patients in conjunction with dept Billing Manager and operations staff.

  • Actively work self pay accounts

  • Review claims denials and address means of reducing denials

  • Perform analysis of complex patient accounts and work to get issues resolved

  • Help to ensure that timely billing and maximum collections occur by working closely with clinicians and operations staff

  • Actively work claims rejections

Credentials:

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)

  • And 3+ years Minimum of professional/technical billing experience preferred. Strong knowledge of medical billing experience working with third party insurance carriers.

  • Associate of Arts or Science (Preferred)
