*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS *To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  • Ensure that all Hanwha Philly Shipyard safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met
  • Assist in ship concept development and bid process by developing paint area estimates
  • Assist in development of ship Technical Specifications by providing input on coatings requirements
  • Develop and maintain Paint Specifications including interfacing with Owner, design partner, coatings vendor, and regulatory bodies as appropriate
  • Develop Tripartite agreement for approval by all signature authorities
  • Develop Painting Codes for use by sub suppliers for manufacturing materials
  • Work with the Procurement Department to prepare bid comparisons between multiple vendors
  • Work with design partner and paint department to establish paint area and quantity estimates
  • Develop and maintain Purchase Order Specifications for coatings
  • Work with Procurement and Production Departments to track paint product usage against forecast estimates
  • Develop cost and man hour estimates for paint system changes
  • Work with the Paint Department managers to evaluate improvements to the coating systems to reduce cost and man hours
  • Prepare Coating Technical Files, UWILD Documentation, and other document deliverables as required
  • Develop material storage and protection plan for use by Material Control for equipment with extended storage durations
  • Develop coatings work packages for use by production
  • Use 3D modeling software to create supporting views and sketches
  • Prepare templates for hull markings
  • Provide field support for coatings
  • Answer questions and help resolve and issues
  • Analyze shipyard VOC statistics for reporting to local EPA
  • Coordinate any rework of incorrectly painted outfitting
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum of 2 years practical experience at a shipyard or in a consulting firm
  • Knowledge/experience with various coating systems utilized in marine applications
  • NACE Coating Inspector Program Level 1 preferred.  Level 2 a plus
  • Proficiency with MS Office including MS Word and MS Excel
  • International experience or familiarity with Korean Shipbuilding Standards is a plus
  • Excellent written and presentation skills coupled with strong interpersonal and team-building capabilities across different functional areas and cultures
  • Decision making/problem solving
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Willingness and ability to work as a team member

     

     

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering is preferred. Candidates with a technical diploma and 5+ years' experience in ship design and construction may also be considered

``` - Minimum 3 years' experience in marine industry, or worked as a Service Engineer, technical support or similar background - Proficiency with MS Office and CAD systems such as AutoCAD - Knowledge/experience concerning modern shipbuilding practices is a plus - Experience with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Steel Vessel Rules, IMO Regulations, and US Coast Guard Requirements is a plus - International experience or familiarity with European and/or Asian Shipbuilding Standards is a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental exposu es are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke.  Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.* *
