What You'll Do

Teradata is seeking a seasoned and dynamic Sr. Director of Security Operations to lead and elevate our cybersecurity efforts. As a key member of the Information Security leadership team, this leader will serve as a consensus builder, problem solver, and team leader for the security operations function. This is a critical role that requires an individual with a strong technical background as well as a distinctive understanding of balancing security requirements with business objectives. The Sr. Director of Information Security Operations will act as an empowered team member with the CISO during planning and design initiatives to ensure security measures are incorporated into the department strategy and priorities are clearly understood/defined cross-functionally. This individual will lead a global team responsible for continuously monitoring Teradata’s network and responding to cyber security threats, anomalies, and attacks in partnership with our 24x7 managed SOC.

In this role, the Sr. Director of Information Security Operations must also articulate and thoroughly understand technical and complex information security threats, methodologies, frameworks, technologies, and architectures. They should draw from previous hands-on experience to navigate technical decisions and challenges. This deep level of knowledge and fundamental understanding is critical to appropriately communicating, prioritizing, and mapping disparate technical data to actionable business risks – as well as holding others accountable. The Sr. Director of Information Security Operations will assist with security modernization, simplification, and automation to streamline operations and the overall security architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Team Management: Lead and manage the SOC team, ensuring all members are trained, motivated, and working effectively together. Responsibilities include hiring new team members, conducting performance evaluations, and providing role-specific ongoing training and development.

  • Strategic and Tactical Guidance: Provide strategic and tactical security guidance for all security operations projects, including evaluating and recommending technical controls. Understand and interact with related disciplines through committees to ensure the consistent application of policies and standards.

  • Cybersecurity Operations: Oversee the deployment, management, and optimization of cybersecurity operations technologies. Lead threat management, incident monitoring, response, and vulnerability management efforts across all layers of the stack to safeguard Teradata and our customers.

  • Incident Response and Investigation: Develop and manage Teradata’s cybersecurity incident response program. Coordinate immediate response to security incidents, including identification, triage, containment, eradication, and recovery. Manage security incidents and events to protect Teradata's intellectual property, digital assets, and the company's reputation. Lead security investigations and digital forensics. Conduct post-incident reviews for continuous improvement of response strategies.

  • Detection and Response: Manage Teradata’s detection and response capabilities, including software, third-party security operations center, and threat hunting. Ensure appropriate visibility by defining, deploying, and tuning detection and response platforms. Work towards a Single Pane of Glass and a rational set of alerts by incorporating all necessary log sources.

  • Threat Intelligence: Define appropriate threat intelligence feeds and processes for collecting, analyzing, and ingesting them into our platforms to add context to security operations.

  • Vulnerability Management: Run a comprehensive Vulnerability Management program to ensure complete coverage, accurate data on vulnerability posture, and a swift remediation process.

  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate security risks. Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect the organization.

  • Metrics and Monitoring: Develop business-relevant metrics to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the security operations program. Ensure monitoring for attacks, intrusions, and unusual, unauthorized, or illegal activity.

  • Stakeholder Relationships: Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for security initiatives. Oversee relationships with third-party vendors and service providers.

  • Compliance and Policy: Ensure compliance with relevant security standards, regulations, and industry best practices. Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Communications and Education: Promote security awareness across the organization through training and education programs. Provide cybersecurity briefings, status updates, and consultancy to various internal and external audiences.

  • Technology and Tools: Evaluate, implement, and manage security technologies and tools to enhance security operations. Stay current with emerging security technologies and trends.

  • Ethical Hacking: Engage in 'ethical hacking,' simulating security breaches to identify potential weaknesses and implement measures to prevent negative outcomes.

  • Industry Knowledge: Stay current with the latest information security risks and the Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) of attackers. Research and evaluate emerging security threats and ways to manage them.

What Makes You a Qualified Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Business Administration, or a related field to ensure a solid foundation in the principles underpinning the role

  • Minimum of 15 years in leadership roles within the information security or cybersecurity field, demonstrating a track record of strategic oversight, project management, and successful implementation of information security initiatives.

  • Demonstrated experience in information security operations. Extensive background in cybersecurity technologies, threat management, and incident response. Exceptional skills in process development, project management, and stakeholder collaboration.

  • Familiarity with the latest information security technologies and services such as Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Security Operations Center (SOC), Network Detection and Response (NDR), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR), Extended Detection and Response (XDR), Identity and Access Management (IAM), Zero Trust Security, Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM), Deception Technology, and Managed Detection and Response (MDR).

  • Knowledge of security and control frameworks such as ISO/IEC 27001, PCI, HIPAA, HITRUST, NIST, ITIL, SOX, and GDPR.

  • Recognized certifications in the field such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), evidencing a commitment to maintaining expertise in cybersecurity.

  • Strategic and Operational Planning: Ability to develop, articulate, and implement comprehensive strategies and operational plans in alignment with Teradata’s objectives and cybersecurity best practices.

  • Leadership in Cybersecurity: Demonstrated expertise in the technical and business aspects of cybersecurity, including understanding of current threats, risk management, and preventive strategies.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Exceptional skills in communicating complex security concepts to diverse audiences, negotiating with, influencing, and engaging stakeholders across various levels of the organization.

  • Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Capacity to navigate a dynamic and agile environment, managing uncertainties and solving complex problems with innovative solutions.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, capable of building and maintaining high-performing teams and promoting a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement

Pay Rate: $186,300.00 - $242,200.00 - $298,100.00 Annually
