Humana Associate Director, Data Science in Pierre, South Dakota

The Associate Director, Data Science uses mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions. The Associate Director, Data Science requires a solid understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across department(s).

The Associate Director, Data Science develops, maintains, and collects structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and reporting. Creates reports, projections, models, and presentations to support business strategy and tactics. Decisions are typically related to identifying and resolving complex technical and operational problems within department(s) and could lead multiple managers or highly specialized professional associates.

  • Develop and oversee the execution of data science projects, including predictive modeling, machine learning, and advanced analytics.

  • Decisions are typically related to identifying and resolving complex technical and operational problems within department(s) and could lead multiple highly specialized professional associates.

  • Add capabilities to Humana's network design tool set that have the potential for high value creation and re-use across multiple use cases.  

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in leading complex advanced analytic projects from design to execution while managing stakeholder expectations and meeting targeted timelines.

  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, from data collection and preprocessing to model development and deployment.

  • Utilize statistical analysis and machine learning techniques to provide actionable insights and recommendations.

  • Create reports, projections, models, and presentations to support business strategy and tactics.

  • Develops, maintains, and collects structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and reporting.

  • Build and iterate tools that Humana market and corporate associates will use keeping end-user feedback and experience central to enhancements.

  • This role is responsible to stay abreast of emerging technology and be able to use that knowledge to both craft a strategy and educate others on the application and impact of technology

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related quantitative field

  • 6 or more years of advanced data analytics experience

  • 2 or more years of management experience

  • Proven ability to translate complex methodologies and analytical results to non-technical business insights

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational navigation and consulting skills with the ability to understand unstated needs of and influence fellow business leaders

  • Demonstrated experience in working with assignments that involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors with Python, R, SAS, SQL, MATLAB, DataRobot or similar statistical and scripting tools

  • Experience developing and validating machine learning and statistical forecasting models or predictive models, including Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, Neural Networks, cluster analysis, regression analysis, time series, and forecasting 

  • Experience in developing, maintaining, and collecting structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and reporting

  • Track record of many high impact project implementations in an industry setting reducing risk and increasing the probability of successful technology delivery

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree

  • PMP certification

  • Six Sigma Certification

This role is "remote/work at home" and can be based anywhere in the United States.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$139,500 - $192,000 per yearThis job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
