Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory within the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS).The primary purpose of the Temporary Research Assistant is to assist with the conduct of mass-spectrometric experiments based on sample and user specifications. The Temporary Research Assistant will also assist with analysis of experimental data using specialized mass spectrometry software. In addition, the Temporary Research Assistant will provide technical assistance and support to senior Mass Spectrometry Laboratory personnel for all aspects of highly specialized hydrogen-deuterium exchange studies conducted in the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. Additional duties include day-to-day instrument maintenance and facility housekeeping.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Contributes to all aspects of highly specialized hydrogen-deuterium exchange studies conducted in the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory.
  • Participates in establishing, implementing and conducting routine lab procedures including sample preparation, mass spectrometry analysis and data analysis.
  • Be involved in, and may independently complete, selected facility user projects.
  • Interacts with facility users. Be able to understand their specific requirements and explain results clearly.
  • Participates in development, implementation and modification of specialized techniques and procedures based on project requirements.
  • Operates, maintains and trouble-shoots different facility instruments.
  • Assists with analysis of mass spectrometry data for protein identification using different search engines including Proteome, Discoverer, Mascot, GPM, and Sequest and prepares reports based on data.
  • Analyzes mass spectrometry data to generate quantitative information using Excalibur, Skyline and other software and prepares reports based on data.
  • Manufactures nanospray columns.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lab environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
