UPMC Benefits Representative in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Our UPMC Corporate Benefits Department is searching for a Benefits Representative to join the team! This is a regular, full-time position that primarily works between 8:30am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday. The first few months will be spent onsite at the US Steel Tower for training. Upon completion of training, work from home flexibility in a hybrid work environment is offered to strong performers!

In this role, the Benefits Representative provides advice, customer service and assistance to individuals with questions on our benefits and retirement plans. They resolve basic and complex benefit and tuition questions and issues. Additionally, they make adjustments, updates and corrections to benefits arrangements and documentation to ensure compliance with laws, contractual arrangements and corporate policy.

The ideal candidate has a basic understanding of benefits, insurance and healthcare. Additionally, they have experience within a call center setting. Responsibilities:

  • Respond timely and accurately to current and former employees via Employee Service Center on a wide range of benefit questions and concerns.

  • Utilize Human Resource Information System , Customer Relationship Management call tracking system, Tuition database and vendor web based systems as needed: to verify information and generate reports related to benefit deductions, eligibility, enrollments, confirmations, event maintenance, plan statistics, verify enrollment, track benefit eligibility, etc.

  • Request appropriate forms for family and employment status changes, review for accuracy and completion within appropriate time limits and update the Human Resource Information System and document appropriately in our Customer Relationship Management system.

  • Assist in the administration of benefit programs such as medical dental, (IRS Section 125), COBRA, FMLA, disability, life insurance, and other associated benefits as available for all benefit eligible employees, physicians and management.

  • Handle daily activities in the administration of the Tuition Assistance Benefit program. Maintain files, process applications, process reimbursement and advancement benefit payments timely and accurately, interact with schools and staff members on the tuition program.

  • Process school invoices for tuition advancement and reconcile grades and taxes following each semester.

  • Review new hire paperwork, benefit applications and related documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.

  • Participate in the testing, communication, and implementation of annual open enrollment process, including assisting with benefit fairs.

  • Assist in the development, design and communication of benefit procedures and programs.

  • Performs other duties, as assigned, such as EOI process, assisting with COBRA administration, special mailings, death claims, etc.

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field and one (1) year of human resources, customer care center or insurance industry experience required.

  • OR High School Diploma/GED and three (3) years of human resources, customer care center or insurance industry experience required.

  • OR UPMC Summer Associates/Pittsburgh Fellows program required

  • Benefit related experience preferred.

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic Health & Welfare and Retirement employee benefits principals, practices, procedures and documentation as applicable preferred.

  • General knowledge of laws pertaining to employee benefits, COBRA and IRS Section 125 preferred.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
