DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: POSITION SUMMARY The Legal Intern shall provide support to the legal department of Matthews International Corporation ("Matthews" and/or the "Company") at the Company's corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and shall also assist with various special projects for the legal department. This internship will take place during the summer of 2025 and shall provide an opportunity to learn how certain fundamental internal legal functions operate within the Company. The legal Intern shall be responsible for a coordinating and timely executing a variety of legal projects during the summer tenure. The Legal Intern shall gain practical knowledge of how the role of in-house legal counsel contributes to the success of a rapidly evolving multi-national operation through direct interaction with the General Council, the entire legal team and business professionals throughout the organization.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES * Supports day-to-day operations of the legal department while developing a general understanding of all aspects of administration of the Company's legal function including policies, procedures and processes. * Gains exposure to various issues impacting the Company's corporate functions and/or business units. * Primary focus shall be supporting the legal department in its role of working with the Company's various business units. * Helps create and develop legal presentations. * Extensive document review and file organization. * Research legal issues and prepare memorandums summarizing finding of research. * Providing assistance with special projects at the direction of the legal department. * Review standard non-disclosure agreements and equipment lease agreements. * Support due diligence related to any acquisitions and/or mergers. * Additional duties are assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS * Current enrollment in ABA accredited JD degree program or an internationally accredited law program. * High degree of proficiency with MS Office Suite, Outlook, PowerPoint & Internet Applications * Ability to maintain confidentiality and be exceedingly discrete while being exposed to highly sensitive information. * Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills. * Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning. * Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts. * Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients. * Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment. * Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management, * Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting. * Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. * Ability to work overtime as necessary
PHYSICAL ASPECTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT * Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear and see. * Regularly/Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. * The noise level in the work environment is usually low/moderate. * Expect to work 9 AM to 5 PM, five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday in a professional setting. * The duration of the internship shall be eight (8) to ten (10) weeks.
