UPMC Sr. Professional Staff Nurse, BSN in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Hours: 7a-5:30p Weekdays, with Night / Weekend / Holiday Call Hours

Location: Cath Lab - Children's Hospital

The Senior Professional Staff Nurse, a Registered Nurse, plays a leadership role in delivering and managing nursing care. They set care standards, oversee patient care activities, and collaborate with team members, physicians, and families to achieve positive outcomes. Responsibilities:

  • Applies the nursing process within Relationship-Based Care to create a holistic healing environment.

  • Develops patient-centered goals and plans of care, communicates effectively, and documents comprehensively to promote teamwork.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking to address patient needs and integrates organizational goals to enhance safety, quality, and patient satisfaction. Builds compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

  • Identifies opportunities for quality improvement, applies evidence-based practice, and leads or supports innovations in care and workforce health.

  • Mentors and develops others, shares knowledge, and actively engages in continuous professional growth.

  • Serves as a role model and leader in clinical expertise, education, or evidence-based practice.

  • Promotes positive change, fosters teamwork, and participates in governance at unit and hospital levels.

  • Cultivates strong professional relationships, addresses workplace challenges, and balances personal and professional priorities through effective delegation and time management.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience

  • BSN Preferred

  • Previous PICU / CICU / Cath Lab experience preferred

  • UPMC-approved nursing certification is required within 1 year of hire unless holding a Master's in nursing, DNP, or a Master's in a related field (if BSN is held). Certification or advanced education must be maintained.

  • Professional contributions must align with department or system goals.

  • Must achieve and maintain a Good/Solid/Strong or higher rating in a performance evaluations

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Registered Nurse (RN). RN license must be issued either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

  • UPMC approved nursing certification preferred.

  • Annual completion of a professional contributions selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by Unit Director

  • OR UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained.

  • OR Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Act 33 / 34 / 73 with renewal
